Salata Mechouia is one of the most popular Tunisian snacks. However, it is characteristic primarily for the Cap Bon region, i.e. a peninsula located in the north-east of the country, projecting far into the Mediterranean Sea. Its name translates as grilled salad, because it is based on vegetables baked on a hearth called here Kanoun.
Paprika plays a key role. Traditionally green, oblong and quite mild - Felfel in Arabic.
