Description
Zaatar is a spice blend containing ground sumac, roasted sesame and "green herbs" (thyme, marjoram, oregano). Zatar comes from Arab countries and is popular mainly in Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel and Armenia. Zatar is used to season meat and vegetables or, in combination with olive oil, marinate olives. Smear pita bread or flatbread (pancakes - tortillas, Spanish bread, piadina) with Zatara. Zatar's flavor can be spicy, herbal, nutty or roasted.
