Zaatar is a spice blend containing ground sumac, roasted sesame seeds and 'green herbs' (thyme, marjoram, oregano). Zatar comes from Arab countries and is popular mainly in Morocco, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Armenia. Zatar is used to season meat and vegetables, or in combination with olive oil, it is used to marinate olives. Grease pita bread or flatbread (flat bread - tortillas, Spanish bread, piadina) with Zatara. Zatar's flavor can be spicy, herbal, nutty or toasty.
